St. Joseph police blocked off streets in an east-side neighborhood and could be heard urging a man believed to be inside to answer his phone or come outside.

The standoff began late Friday morning as police tried to serve an arrest warrant near the crossing of Basil Drive and Carol Drive (near Frederick and Riverside Road).

Officers from the St. Joseph Police Department joined members of the Special Response Team in blocking off the area.

Speaking through a bull horn, officers outside urged the suspect to exit the home through a garage door, or to answer his phone. Officers said they had a warrant for his arrest.
