A freeze warning has been issued for this evening by the National Weather Service.

The freeze warning will be in effect from midnight until nine o’clock tomorrow morning. The warning includes northwest, west-central, north-central, and northeast Missouri as well as east-central and northeast Kansas.

NWS forecasters expect sub-freezing temperatures this evening, which could dip to as low as 30 degrees.

The weather service advises residents to protect tender plants from the cold. Outdoor water pipes could burst. They should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly to prevent bursting.

While much of this area will see below freezing temperatures, western Nebraska is bracing for a powerful winterlike storm which is moving through the Great Plains. Winter storm warnings have been issued for a wide swath of Wyoming and Montana as well as western Nebraska into the Dakotas and Minnesota.
