Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley released a report detailing the misuse of a government vehicle by the program manager of the state’s Commercial Dog and Cat Inspection Program. The program manager, responsible for inspecting animal facilities and conducting border checks, used the state-owned vehicle for personal trips to restaurants, stores, hotels, and a liquor store. GPS data revealed 47 road trips with improper usage over a 13-month period, totaling 15,552 miles. The audit also found 39 days when the vehicle was turned on and off without changing location. The manager’s personal bank records were used to confirm unauthorized vehicle use.
