Southbound I-29 at Gene Field Road Bridge to be narrowed to one lane March 11

Southbound Interstate 29 will be restricted to a single lane Wednesday, March 11 as crews move equipment for the ongoing Gene Field Road Bridge project, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The lane reduction is scheduled to take place from 6:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the bridge construction site. Motorists should be aware of a 10.6-foot width restriction during this window.

The work is part of a larger effort by Clarkson Construction Company and MoDOT to modernize the Gene Field Road Bridge. Key upgrades include:

  • Widening the existing bridge structure.
  • Replacing the driving surface.
  • Adding new pedestrian sidewalks to both the north and south sides.

The project is currently slated for completion in July 2026.

MoDOT officials remind drivers to remain alert when traveling through work zones. All scheduled work is weather-permitting and subject to change.
