Iowa Senate approves bill to waive tuition and fees for certain disabled veterans

Legislation to provide free tuition and fees to disabled veterans seeking to attend Iowa’s public universities has gained overwhelming support in both chambers and is now awaiting approval from Gov. Kim Reynolds. The bill would require the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and University of Northern Iowa to offer tuition and fee waivers to veterans with service-related disabilities. To qualify, veterans must have a 100% disability rating from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and have exhausted other financial aid sources. The waivers aim to bridge the gap between existing financial aid and remaining education costs for eligible veterans. The bill received unanimous support in the Iowa Senate and House, with lawmakers praising it as a well-deserved gesture of gratitude to veterans.
